Promotional Pitch To Investors - Draft

The King Edward Residency & Art Agency (also known as KERAA) is a new and upcoming institution which supports and promotes artists all over the world. Our facilities and high level services are dedicated to professional, skilled artists who require studio space, residency and career building experience.

While the cost to maintain and keep the insitution running may be high, a majority of our income will come from the price of tuition and residential fees. There are also ten planned exhibits and shows within the year to promote and raise money for charitable programs as well as a portion going into our residency. We also plan to lease paintings and artworks to large coorportate offices and organizations, to have our artists work featured in their buildings.

As it is the first year for KERAA, advertisting will play a significant role in promoting and getting awareness out there for our institution. The areas in which we have decided to advertise are divided into two categories, advertising for the residency and advertising for the featured artists. When advertising for the residency we decided on large visual advertisements which will be placed in public areas around the city. We decided to incorporate public, site specific advertisements on billboards, public benches, and bus stop shelters. By placing them in such public and traffic heavy portions of the city, we hope to achieve recognition by both pedestrians and drivers. We have also decided to create segments and commercials on both television, radio and online to approach those who do not travel to these busy areas. These will also help promote the residency to a much further audience. For the featured artists in our residency, we thought that it was best to promote them more strictly in art inspired magazines such Avenue Calgary, CanadianArt, Galleries West and Calgary Culture. These magazines play a significant role because they are aimed towards an early audience based on the close proximity and region of our residency.

Sorry if it's poorly written and short but I can't really think of much else to say right now based on the notes I took.

Mission Statement:

‘King Edward Residency and Art Agency’ is an agency/residency that provides professional visual artists with the creative environment, connections, resources and representation to establish further their careers.

Mandate:

KERAA promotes emerging and established artists that are committed to the production of relevant contemporary art through the realization of an active community of artists, curators and collectors. We maintain our shared studio facilities to do this, the launching point for creating and exporting new art. The people we work with are selected for a spirit of integration and diversification of the current art market, accepting all ideologies and mediums. This translates into an ever growing network of galleries and private collections that expands the work’s reach at local, national and global levels. KERAA relies on the ‘social space’ generated by this network: outsourcing our exhibitions to the venues of our collaborators is a key factor towards the success of the artists and promotion of the network. We recognize the increasing importance of Art Fairs in today’s art world which is why we consider and include the market as a relevant factor in the creation process, separating us from most residencies. We want to affect the view of art in the market, generate new niches for the numerous practices that are steadily growing and allow our artists to make a living by these means. As a local venue, we integrate the surrounding communities and the city to be active participants for support and contact them with the rest of Canada and the world.

Note: I decided to write it in a more personal note, to give that feel for artist’s, do you guys agree? Any ideas or something that bugs you let me know!!

Organization:

For Profit, Limited Partnership, heading towards incorporation into a cooperative once it’s bigger? How big are we going to be?

Must have visual artists in the board whichever organization form we pick, we are committed towards the artists in our care. Hence the idea of a partnership where we would be liable: clearly a risk but it shows our belief in those we represent, which is already present in a recruitment process.

I’m looking for legal definitions or regulations for partnerships that go beyond the description in the handout. I’ll update as soon as possible (seriously).

Programming:

The application or recruitment process must acknowledge a number of years of active practice (1 to 5? What was the definition of ‘professional visual artist’ we were working with?), show experience (CV, Portfolio) and a direction for its personal practice (artist statement). They must show interest in community.

NOTE: organization, programming is still being researched. Next Friday (19th) is my deadline. Any suggestions please advice!!
