Mandate:
KERAA promotes emerging and established artists that are committed to the production of relevant contemporary art through the realization of an active community of artists, curators and collectors. We maintain our shared studio facilities to do this, the launching point for creating and exporting new art. The people we work with are selected for a spirit of integration and diversification of the current art market, accepting all ideologies and mediums. This translates into an ever growing network of galleries and private collections that expands the work’s reach at local, national and global levels. KERAA relies on the ‘social space’ generated by this network: outsourcing our exhibitions to the venues of our collaborators is a key factor towards the success of the artists and promotion of the network. We recognize the increasing importance of Art Fairs in today’s art world which is why we consider and include the market as a relevant factor in the creation process, separating us from most residencies. We want to affect the view of art in the market, generate new niches for the numerous practices that are steadily growing and allow our artists to make a living by these means. Note: I decided to write it in a more personal note, to give that feel for artist’s, do you guys agree? Any ideas or something that bugs you let me know!!
Organization:
For Profit, Limited Partnership, heading towards incorporation into a cooperative once it’s bigger? How big are we going to be?
Must have visual artists in the board whichever organization form we pick, we are committed towards the artists in our care. Hence the idea of a partnership where we would be liable: clearly a risk but it shows our belief in those we represent, which is already present in a recruitment process.
I’m looking for legal definitions or regulations for partnerships that go beyond the description in the handout. I’ll update as soon as possible (seriously).
Programming:
The application or recruitment process must acknowledge a number of years of active practice (1 to 5? What was the definition of ‘professional visual artist’ we were working with?), show experience (CV, Portfolio) and a direction for its personal practice (artist statement). They must show interest in community.
NOTE: organization, programming is still being researched. Next Friday (19th) is my deadline. Any suggestions please advice!!
The organization is now going to be non for profit and the board members (us) will elect or hire a president.
